Thank you for your interest in submitting a synopsis or manuscript to New Canaan Publishing Company Inc.
Over the years, we have received an overwhelming influx of submissions relative to our size. This has sometimes made it difficult to cope with all submissions within a reasonable time frame. By necessity, we have decided to restrict our intake of submissions only to materials likely to fall within the following categories:
- Christian books for children that fall within the categories described on our children’s writers page.
- Christian books for any age group. We are particularly interested in works that address Christian issues with a high degree of contemporary relevance.
Please note that we do not guarantee a response, nor the return of any materials submitted to us. Any materials submitted without adequate return postage and a sufficient sized envelope will definitely be discarded after review unless we are inclined to offer to publish. If you include a SASE we will use best efforts to return materials, but given our limited staff and overwhelming volume of submissions, we cannot guarantee to do so.
Whether submitting a complete manuscript of not, enclose a book proposal which must include the following items:
- A query/cover letter introducing the proposal.
- An overview of the concept for the book, including an indication of the word count, and of the intended audience for the book.
- A brief synopsis of each chapter.
- Two sample chapters or complete manuscript. If you submit less than a complete manuscript, let us know whether the manuscript is finished, and if not, when you expect it to be completed.
- Your resume. Include such items as a bibliography of other works you have published; a description of any public speaking that you do on more than an infrequent basis; your social, professional, or other connections to your writing for children; and any other information that will indicate your qualifications to write the proposed book.
- A list of competitive titles which to your knowledge are already on the market. If possible, indicate how your proposed work differs.
- An indication of marketing possibilities, if any, available to you to advance the work.
- Please note that we are unable to return the above materials; make sure, therefore, that you send us only a copy and that you keep a copy for yourself. Please enclose a stamped, self-addressed size A5 envelope for our reply to you. Due to our size and the number of submissions we receive, expect up to four months for a reply.
