Wesley Carrington’s dream has come true. Finally, his father has decided the time is right to sell the family farm in Missouri and move West. They are to join a wagon train on its arduous journey to the Oregon Territory. With all the dangers facing them, Wesley wonders if they will ever make it that far. Wesley’s father promises that they will turn back at Fort Kearney if Wesley’s mother wants to. Wesley doesn’t like to hear this, for as far as he is concerned, it’s Oregon or bust!

Along the trail with the wagon train, Wesley finds he has his own problems to worry about. He’s angered at how his father still treats him like a child, especially when he hires Colter, barely a teen himself. Gradually, Wesley learns that trust and responsibility must be earned, and earn them he does. He also comes to understand Sarah Jane, who becomes more his sister than the adversary he had previously seen her to be.
