Twelve-year-old Sara is very close to her maternal Grandfather, “Gramps.” She is excited to be visiting him and Gran in North Carolina for the whole summer. Among other things, it means a break for Sara from the problems she faces at home: a too-busy Dad, a sad mother, and a grumpy live-in grandmother. But the summer does not unfold as expected. Sara is forced to appreciate the magnitude of the fact that Gramps suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. Gramps’ behavior changes rapidly and unexpectedly for the worse, leaving Sara with a choice. She can let family problems at home hold her back, or she can take charge of her circumstances, change her own life, and understand the place in her life that Gramps will always occupy.
